Development of the English Language

 The explorations during the Elizabethan era are another source of the English vocabulary. These came from Spain, and Portugal which included many Native American and Caribbean words like 'tobacco' and 'potato.' The Stuart Colonization on the eastern shores of America saw a large number of words from Native Americans. The share of Britain in the world's trade has seen a steady rise in the Stuart and Tudor policies of exploration to the Victorian empire building. This increase in trade has seen a rise in the number of phrases and words entering the English vocabulary. The conquests of the British Empire encompassed about a quarter of the earth's surface.
